I'm New

Whether you are about to visit for the first time or the tenth time, our Get Acquainted Ministry has been preparing for you! We have made every effort to make sure your visit with our church family is enjoyable and rewarding.

What to Expect?

Welcome. Attending a new church for the first time can be an intimidating process. In addition to some of the emotional anxiety we may encounter, there may be logistical questions that we bring with us. Our Deacon, Deaconess and Get Acquainted Ministries members are expecting you and can assist you with any questions you may have. However, the following questions and answers may also be helpful as you anticipate your first experience at Mount Airy Baptist Church. Be sure to identify yourself when requested so that we are able to properly greet you and share important information.

What can I expect when I visit?

You will find a warm, friendly congregation waiting to welcome you. Regardless of your nationality, income level, education level, or occupation in life, there is a place for you and your family in our Church family.

Our Sunday Morning Worship service is one hour long; it start at 9:30 am and includes special music, preaching, and teaching of God’s Word, the Bible.

What is a Baptist church?

A Baptist Church is a body of believers who believe that the Holy Bible is a perfect treasure of divine instruction that has God as its author and salvation for its end. The two ordinances of the Baptist Church are Christian Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. The Baptist Church also adopts the Articles of Faith, a statement of belief based on the Holy Bible. Additionally, the Baptist Church is an independent entity that selects its leaders and supports their missionaries and other institutions sharing our beliefs. Our church answers to the headship of Jesus Christ.

I'm not a Baptist... Can I still attend?

Absolutely, all are welcome! We serve a God that does not distinguish between denominations and neither do we. Our goal is not to determine one’s denominational affiliation, but to play our part in helping to lead people to Christ.

Will I feel welcome at Mount Airy Church?

Yes. We hope that anyone from any walk of life will feel welcome at Mount Airy.

Will I have to stand up in front of people? (with a one hour service, this may be eliminated)

Guests are asked to stand up, but it’s not mandatory! Prior to the start of our worship experience, we request individuals or families to identify themselves to the Church body. Following your introduction, we offer a special welcome to our visitors.  At that time, members of our Get Acquainted Ministry and others will greet you with smiling faces and offer information about our Church and answer any questions you may have.

What should I wear to church?

We do not have a “dress code”; you are welcome to wear whatever you are comfortable in. What you wear is not important, but it is important that you are comfortable in the worship experience.  More important than what you wear is that you come with a heart that is receptive to God’s Word.

Do I have to bring a Bible?

No, you don’t have to bring a Bible, but you can. If you do not have one, don’t worry; all scripture that will be referenced during the service will be shown on screens in the Sanctuary.

Will I be asked to give money?

All contributions are voluntary.

What is the preaching and music like?

Our Sunday morning worship is a traditional service. We have an adult and children choir and a praise team that leads us in worship (hymns and praise songs). The preaching is biblically based, and relevant to your everyday life! You can obtain an audio CD or DVD video recording of the 09:30 a.m. service.

Do I have to be a member to participate?

No. At Mount Airy Baptist you do not have to be a member to participate in any area of worship or Bible study. We offer many events and opportunities to the community and encourage participation by all members and non-members. However, membership is important because it shows your commitment to this body of believers and it allows you to have access to the benefits of membership, which include becoming part of a new and loving family of believers.

I have more questions, who should I talk to?

Feel free to contact the Church Office at 202.789.0640 and we’ll do our best to answer your questions…
